Pro Tips from the Chair: Make Your Color Last Between Appointment

At a glance

  • Cool-to-lukewarm water, gentle wash rhythm, and heat protection = longer-lasting tone.

  • Focus shampoo on scalp; condition mid-lengths to ends.

  • Add UV/heat guard; pre-wet + leave-in before pool or ocean.

What to do

  1. 48-hour pause: After color, wait ~48 hours before the first wash.

  2. Wash rhythm: 2–3×/week; finish with a brief cool rinse to help the cuticle lie flat.

  3. Scalp first: Emulsify shampoo in hands, cleanse scalp, let suds run through lengths.

  4. Condition with intent: Mid-lengths → ends, 2–3 minutes. Add a weekly mask if hair is porous or sun-kissed.

  5. Defend the tone: Hat in midday sun, moderate hot tools, always use a heat protectant.

By hair type

  • Fine/straight: Lightweight conditioner; minimal oils.

  • Wavy/curly: Co-wash between shampoos; diffuse on low.

  • Coarse/coily: Rich masks; low heat; protective styles to reduce friction.
